Using the latest HDSL transmission and remote power feeding
technologies the QualiNet analog pair-gain system is suitable to install up to 12
analog subscriber connections (POTS) using only one pair of existing copper cables
without any further infrastructural investments. The system provides the same
quality of services simultaneously for the 12 subscribers, as compared to the copper
cable connections (ringing signal, tariff impulse, pulse and DTMF dialing, modem
transmission, CLIP, etc.)
The basic configuration of the system is shown on Fig/1. As it is seen the system
consists of two types of equipment:
- the PCM-CU (central unit, CU) which is located on the exchange side
- the PCM-RU (remote unit, RU) which is located on the remote site, close to the subscribers
|

The largest operating distance between the two equipment is determined
by the number of the handled channels and by the type and the quality of the local
loop cable. The maximum allowed loop resistance is 1100 ohm and 31..39 dB
attenuation @ 150 kHz depending on the cable noise. For the conventional PE
cables these parameters approximately represent the following physical
distances:

The above distances can be doubled by using HDSL line regenerator PCM12RG
and PRU auxiliary remote power feeding unit

Connects up to 12 analog lines (a/b#1...12) of the exchange and digitizes their traffic
connects one remote unit using the HDSL/2B1Q transmission technology at 272, 528 and 784 Kbps
provides remote power feeding voltage for the remote unit
connects the alarm system and an optional local or remote supervision
terminal (alarm, RS485)

The function of the RPU3 located at the central office, is to provide auxiliary remote
power feeding source for up to 3 regenerator units.
The PCM RG has the following functions:
- Connects the UHDSL interface and the auxiliary power source wires and
provides the feeding voltage for the PCM RU connected to the second cable saction
- Terminates the HDSL traffic from central office and forwards it to the PCM RU
and back from the remote unit to the PCM CU.
When using PCM RG one additional pair of wire is needed up to the regenerator and one pair up to the PCM RU.
To fully satisfy the customers’ demands our PCM system has 4, 8, 11 and 12
channels versions too (PCM4, PCM8, PCM11 and PCM12), which provide the
quality services for 4, 8, 11 and 12 subscribers simultaneously over a long-range
operating distances. |
